LHEMS recently proceeded forward with its plan to remount their 2001 ambulance’s patient compartment onto a 2018 Ford E-450 chassis. Their new Mission Support Unit (MSU-1) will be built on the former vehicle’s chassis.

Placing this unit into service will have several benefits. Primarily, it will be used to tow a trailer which contains their 6 wheel drive off road ambulance. This off road ambulance is capable of navigating the most treacherous terrain, but is unable to be driven long distances on open roads or highways. Additionally, MSU-1 will support other facets of Lanoka Harbor EMS’s community involvement, such as vehicle demonstrations, fundraising events and equipment hauling, all without tying up valuable emergency medical resources.

Furthermore, a recent Irving, Texas fire department’s safety initiative inspired LHEMS leadership to include this resource as an automatic second-due resource for all motor vehicle crashes. The unit will be equipped with standard emergency warning systems, as well as traffic advising LED warning lights. The unit can be parked at the scene of an accident in such a manner as to provide a physical barrier between emergency personnel, and oncoming traffic.

This unit brings Lanoka Harbor EMS’s asset count to a historic level. Their vehicle lineup is detailed below
